How to play

• Mouse and keys: WASD to move, mouse to look (click the game to grab the mouse, Esc to let go), hold left click to wind up and let go to throw.
• Bounty: whoever is clearly leading carries a 🎯 bounty. Freezing them pays +40. A 🔥 marks a streak of three or more; a 👑 marks the weekly top three.
• Taunt: T (or the 😜 button) says one of twenty lines out loud, with a speech bubble over your head. Someone who freezes you three times becomes your nemesis; freezing them back pays extra.
• Move like a pro: Space jumps, Shift sprints (watch the stamina bar), C or Ctrl slides when you're running. Jump out of a slide to keep the speed.
• Climb: hop onto cars, forts, crates, the train and the rooftops. Ramps take you up the building site, the sled hill and the hunting stand in the woods. Crate stairs climb onto the station and a house on Maple Street. Trampolines launch you sky high.
• Controller: plug one in. Left stick moves (click it to sprint), right stick looks, RT or RB winds up and lets go, A jumps, B slides, Y shows the map, Back holds the scoreboard. The D-pad and A work the menus.
• Keys only: arrow keys move and turn (or W/S to move, Q/E to turn, A/D to sidestep). Hold Enter, F or J to wind up and let go to throw. Throws get aim help.
• Throwing: snowballs arc, so aim a little high for long shots. The red ring shows where it lands. Headshots do double damage. Jump to dodge, slide to duck under.
• Phones: left thumb moves (push all the way to sprint), drag on the right to look, buttons to throw, jump and slide.
• Wild turkeys roam the woods, the farm and the pond. They peck. A couple of snowballs and they're gone, for a nice bonus. They can't jump, so get up high.
• Ammo: 5 snowballs. Stand still to pack snow faster. Five hits and you're frozen solid.
• Pick ups: yellow snow (double damage), hot cocoa (speed), presents (blocks a hit). The best ones sit up on the rooftops.
• Care packages: hit a named streak (SNOW DAY at three, BLIZZARD at five, ICE AGE at eight) and the town drops a weapon on you where you stand, or refills the one you hold. Streaks feed themselves. Dying ends them. Frozen three times with nothing to show for it and the town sends you a weapon too, once a round. Pity, but armed.
• Weapon of the day: one weapon a day has its crates everywhere, pays a bonus on every freeze and counts double towards mastering it. The menu says which.
• Awards: up to five a round, rarest first. Cold Front (most freezes), Unstoppable (longest streak), Headhunter (headshots), Team Player (assists), Soapbox Hog, Turkey Whisperer, Storm Chaser (freezes in the squall), Closer (freezes in the last 30 seconds), Party Pooper (streaks ended), Treasurer (pocketed the slush fund), Human Popsicle (frozen the most) and Spray and Pray (most snow, least contact). Some of these are compliments. Miss one by a hair and the results say so, in a dashed card.
• Town target: the whole town shares one target a day, a number of freezes by midnight UTC. The daily box shows the count and the XP. When it lands, everyone who threw in a round that day gets the XP on their next visit, whether they were there for the landing or not.
• Your rival: the town keeps a ledger of who froze whom. Whoever you have traded the most freezes with lately (five or more, the last of them within two weeks) is your rival, named on the menu with the tally. In a round they carry a 💢 on their name tag, and freezing them pays +30. A rival from the locals turns up in your rounds.
• Challenge a friend: the share text under "Share my round" carries a link with your score. Whoever opens it is told to beat it, has three days, and gets a CHALLENGE BEATEN banner the moment they do.
• Shutdowns and assists: freeze someone on a streak of three or more and SHUTDOWN pays ten a streak, up to sixty. Hit someone who then gets frozen by somebody else and you get +25 for the assist. Teamwork, or at least adjacency.
• Slush fund drop: once a round the town's money lands somewhere public, with a gold beacon over it and an announcement. First to it gets +150 points and a weapon. The money is never seen again.
• Snow squall: once a round, somewhere in the middle, a squall blows through for twenty seconds and every freeze pays double. The clock says how long is left. Everyone knows. Nobody is calm.
• Every day: your first round of the day pays its round score twice. Three daily challenges, one of them swappable, a weekly contract, and a streak that grows your XP by 10% a day up to 50%, with one-off bonuses on days 3, 7, 14, 30, 50 and 100. First win of the day pays extra.
• Grudges: the last player who became your nemesis is remembered for a day. Meet them again and the feed says so. Freeze them and it is settled.
• Streak shield: miss one day and your play streak survives, once a week. Miss two and it is gone. Nobody said the town was fair. Away three days or more and your first round back pays +75 XP.
• Weapon crates: dark cases banded in colour. Walk over one for a satirical snow weapon (a hot take dispenser, a subprime mortgage, a frivolous lawsuit and seventeen more). Hold to fire; charge weapons fire on release. When the clip runs out you're back to snowballs, and you drop it if you're frozen. Seven weapons are everyone's from the first round and the weapon of the day is everyone's for the day; the other thirteen are earned in play (levels, care packages, the slush fund drop and chests) or bought in the Shop; a bought weapon is the same weapon, with the same numbers as anyone holding it. A locked crate stays put and tells you how to get it. The Spawn Kit perk starts each round with a weapon from your arsenal.
• The Soapbox: a glowing circle somewhere in town. Stand in it with no enemies inside and you score 4 points a second. It moves every 45 seconds, so follow the banner, the radar marker and the map.
• Press M for the town map. Rating moves with every player you meet.
